2019 Vancouver Island Hiking Bucket List - 12 Hikes in 12 Months

* This blog is being updated throughout 2019 as the hikes are completed.

Dad on the Juan de Fuca

Lace up them boots! In 2019 I’m going to conquer some hikes that have been on my to-do list for far too long. Twelve hikes in 12 months does not seem very challenging, but the goal with this list is to complete hikes that I haven’t gotten to yet.

I tend to get stuck in hike loops where I do the same couple trails over and over again. Since I moved to Cowichan, I’ve been hiking Stoney Hill and Maple Mountain fairly regularly because they’re near my house. When I lived in Victoria I hiked Mt Finlayson almost every week because I liked to see how fast I could climb.

Whether its due to convenience, competitiveness or sheer laziness, there are is also so much great hiking on this island that I’ve left unexplored.

So this year I’d like to conquer 12 new hikes (although not necessarily one per month). Choosing my twelve ended up being harder than I thought so I cheated a little in the list below.
